Sounds of Brass return to Western Lake Macquarie!
Coming off the back of a busy few months preparing and recording their Australian National Online Festival of Bands entry, Toronto Brass are now focussed on some forthcoming concerts. We were disappointed not to be involved in large scale Anzac services and marches this year but were still very privileged to be able to supply buglers for many pared down services in the area as well as some driveway commemorations.
Looking ahead, on 16th May, Toronto Brass will hold their next concert “Music In The Theatre” which will take place in the lovely reconditioned heritage Rathmines Theatre, right across the park from where we rehearse. This will be a joint concert with our concert band neighbours Western Lake Macquarie Concert Band.
23rd May we will be performing at the “Up In The Air Festival” alongside some of our junior players.
After nearly a year of Covid restrictions the sound of junior brass has also returned to the Westlakes Music Centre in Rathmines. The relaxation of restrictions has meant music lessons can go ahead and Catalina Brass, the training band for Toronto Brass, are able to rehearse together again with a view to performing soon.
The band is made up of young musicians from different schools in the Western Lake Macquarie area. We are in the process of building numbers and it’s great to have the full support of Toronto Brass members who can provide instruments as well as tuition to beginners and above.
“We have a long history of being supported by our local community and this is just one way we can give back and share our love of music with the next generation”, band conductor Trish O’Hearn says. “We have some exciting events planned including con- certs and workshops which the juniors are really looking forward to”
